George Carlin R.I.P.

1937 - 2008

Two R.I.P. posts in a row. Hopefully no 3rd.

Very sad that George Carlin will no longer be there to perform. He was in no way a stand up comedian. Instead, he was a philosopher, true liberal, true liberterian, and says a lot of things that people would like to say, but dare not to.

I was fortunate enough to see him live last year when he visited my town. It was one of the best experiences of my life.

Here are some of his famous routines:

Religion is Bullshit

Saving The Planet

The Ten Commandments

Our Similarities

Airplane Safety

Modern Man

And finally, his infamous "Seven Dirty Words" routine that made it all the way to the supreme court. It would eventually forever change comedy and american TV.

By the way, all his HBO 90-minute long specials are available on YouTube, and I strongly recommend watching them. There's a lot of philosophy in them more than just comedy.

Sorry to lose him, he was one of a kind, his message was to the intellectual, raising public awareness through his very artistic style. He was my favorite, I’ve watched his tapes more than once, and every time I do I learn something new. You are right; he was a 21c style philosopher; mixing logic with witty comedy, changing the concept of "art of comedy", as well as portraying modern day philosophy in entertaining packages.
Thanks for sharing Deefi

ah and I don't think that Carlin would have approved of the concept of "RIP"
;)

Ayya,

Good point :P

Ghadoor,
I'm sure he also wants to see the look on many people's faces when they find out, as he believes, that god, heaven, and hell's existence is all a scam.
